New master’s degree in Management Computer Systems

Released: March 13, 2002

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is launching a new master’s degree in its acclaimed Management Computer Systems program that targets the fast-growing fields of technical computing, programming and system analysis.

“Gov. McCallum and UW System have identified technology jobs as a key economic growth area for Wisconsin,” says Robert Horton, MCS professor. “We’re trying to address that challenge with a program that’s attractive to students who don’t have a lot of time to invest.”

Horton said this program is perfect for those who may be dissatisfied with their current career choice and are looking for a new challenge. It is designed specifically by information systems professionals to meet the significant national and regional shortage of technically trained individuals who can design, develop, implement, support and maintain E-commerce and Web-based applications for organizations.

The Master of Science degree in MCS is a 36-credit program that can be obtained within three semesters if pursued full-time. Students must first register and take the graduate Management Admission Test and then submit for a Graduate School application.

MCS has gained considerable national recognition. For six of the past nine years, MCS has been ranked as the No. 1 four-year computing degree program in the United States and Canada by the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
