UW-Whitewater to offer pre-college summer camps
Released: May 15, 2002
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will once again offer pre-college summer camps for students in the sixth through 12th grades. The first camp is scheduled to begin June 23 and the last camp is scheduled to begin July 28.
According to Shashina Robinson, assistant director of pre-college camp programs, “The pre-college summer camps provide students with a wide range of academic, career, cultural and recreational experiences. Students attending these camps gain exposure to college life, various career opportunities and are given the chance to strengthen their academic skills.”
Pre-college summer camps have been offered at UW-Whitewater since 1985 and have been successful in helping students prepare for college. Nine camps are currently available to students and cover areas such as math, science and technology research. There are camps also specifically geared toward Latino, Native American and Southeast Asian students. An American College Testing (ACT) preparation camp is also offered to those students looking to increase their performance on the nation’s most widely used pre-college standardized test.
Students interested in attending one of the pre-college summer camps are required to complete the application process and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. The pre-college summer camps are funded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and UW-Whitewater. A laboratory and/or travel fee may be assessed.
