Polak awarded Rath Merit Scholarship
Released: July 8, 2002
Jeff Polak is the 2002 Rath Merit Scholarship recipient at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Rath is a $26,000 scholarship awarded over a four-year period and is the largest and most prestigious scholarship offered through the UW-Whitewater Foundation.
Polak is a spring 2002 graduate of Greenfield High School. He scored a 32 on his ACT and was in the 97th percentile of his high school class. He was the president of his high school chapter of the National Honor Society and a senior bandleader.
“It was a great relief to win the scholarship,” said Polak. “I can have fun at school, but I also know I need to keep my focus and my priorities straight.”
Polak plans to major in physics with a minor in chemistry. He wants to become a high school physics and chemistry teacher.
“Jeff is a high end student who ranks in the top 3 percent in his class and is a leader in his high school. The physics department is very excited to have a student like Jeff,” said Tori McGuire, executive director of Admissions.
McGuire said that talented students like Polak have their pick of universities and scholarships like the Rath are a good way to attract these students.
The UW-Whitewater Foundation distributes more than 500 scholarships yearly totaling more than $280,000. Interested students can complete the UW-Whitewater Scholarship Application form found at www.uww.edu/UWWS/appl.html. For further information, contact the Admissions Office at (262) 472-1440.
