Here are a few of the most popular or unique camps on tap for this summer:

•The Wheelchair Sports Camp (June 16-20) provides an introduction to a wide variety of sports. Activities include basketball, tennis, fitness training, tack, football, water skiing, sledge hockey, horseback riding, ropes course and martial arts. Campers will have the opportunity to have fun, gain a greater awareness of their abilities and build independence and self-confidence.

•The UW-Whitewater Junior Warhawk Wheelchair Basketball Camp (July 9-14) focuses exclusively on developing basketball skills. Athletes attending this camp should be interested in competitive basketball. Campers will focus on fundamental skill development.

•Authentic Voices (July 12-18) is a camp designed to help people with severe speech disabilities learn to use technology to effectively augment their speech. Authentic Voices will help attendees develop social skills through a number of adapted recreational activities. Campers will be counseled and mentored by persons with disabilities who are living active and productive lives.

•UW-Whitewater offers two Band Camps over the summer. The Middle School Camp is held July 14-19 and followed July 21-26 with the High School Camp. Both camps will challenge campers at their current school level with performance opportunities. Students will receive one private lesson from the professional staff and participate in a master class session. Additional classes in jazz improvisation, conducting and music theory will let students expand their musical knowledge.

•WISChess (Aug. 4-9) is the Whitewater Instructional Summer Chess Camp. It includes a week of quality instruction and chess-related activities at UW-Whitewater that features some of the most well-known players and instructors in the nation. WISChess is designed for chess players of all strengths and levels of experience wanting to improve their game while enjoying the company of other chess enthusiasts.
