Released: July 8, 2002
On July 1, Elena Pokot started her job as the new Chief Technology Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Pokot has been the Director of Administrative Systems and Information Technology at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Ill. since 1991.
Pokot will focus exclusively on technology resources and services on campus, making them more accessible and responsive to peoples’ needs.
“Elena has had relevant experience in running a similar operation to what we have at UW-Whitewater,” said Richard Telfer, associate vice chancellor of Academic Affairs. “She has good technological and people skills which will help in our continued efforts to promote a strong customer service orientation.”
Some of Pokot’s accomplishments include deploying a stable infrastructure to support online education, collaborating with faculty to develop innovative approaches in on-line curriculum and implementing a state-of-the-art Library Automation System which provides Web-based access to on-campus and off-campus resources.
“This institution provides a blend between a sophisticated educational environment and a sincere concern for the success of individual students,” Pokot said regarding her decision to come to UW-Whitewater. “I hope to improve the communication between information technology and the rest of the campus community. My goal is to enable UW-Whitewater to accomplish its strategic objectives through the means of technology and to provide leadership for the information technology developments on campus.” Pokot resides in Williams Bay with her husband and son, Trever.
