Businesses seek UW-Whitewater graduates at Career Fair
Released: September 10, 2002
More than 65 companies looking for prospective employees and interns will be on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus for the first all-university ‘Hawk Career Fair Wednesday, Sept. 25. The fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in the Williams Center. Jobs and internships will be promoted across most majors, except teaching positions.
In past years, a variety of student organizations put on separate career fairs in the fall,. Companies reported that they preferred to attend one all-inclusive event., according to Career Services Director Craig Mosurinjohn. The ‘Hawk Career Fair is a combined effort of 11 student organizations, Career Services and the College of Business and Economics.
“Employers love our grads,” Mosurinjohn said. “They know they get good employees from UW-Whitewater.”
Most of the participating companies are from Wisconsin and have interacted with UW-Whitewater in some way before. Some examples include: Kohler Co., Abbott Laboratories, Wells Fargo Financial, Target Stores, Sherwin-Williams, Ernst and Young, Lands’ End and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Interested employers can register to participate up to the day before the fair.
Mosurinjohn noted that due to the state of the economy, not as many companies are making fall commitments to graduates except in accounting and Management Computer Systems (MCS). The main part of a student’s job search involves networking, he said, and that’s what takes place at the ‘Hawk Career Fair. He emphasized that students need to research companies they have interest in prior to the event. That process has been made easy through an online site which provides background information on all participating companies.
