Campus Events planned in remembrance of Sept. 11

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will host several events enabling students, faculty and staff to recognize the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A coalition of UW-Whitewater student organizations is sponsoring an event in the Hamilton Center of the University Center to mark the anniversary. The event will include the showing of video footage and a general discussion of ways the university community can engage in efforts toward peace and global understanding.
Faculty and students from the organizations involved will be present to provide information and facilitate discussion. The event is open to all without charge. It will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Among other activities planned:
* WSUW-FM Campus Radio is planning a one-hour live discussion on Sept. 11 with a panel of UW-Whitewater political science faculty. The group will reexamine the events of 9/11 and discuss challenges facing the United States and the world. The program will air from noon to 1 p.m. and will include political scientists John Kozlowicz, Susan Johnson, Anne Hamilton and John Valadez.
* The University Center Gallery will present “America Remembers,” a multimedia program reflecting on the attacks of Sept. 11. The material will include items from Paul Daum, a professor of history at New England College. The exhibit opens at 10 a.m. and will run from Wednesday, Sept. 11 through Wednesday, Sept. 18. Center Gallery is located on the first floor of the University Center.
* Campus chimes will be sounded at memorable times in sync with community churches:
* 7:45 a.m. CST/8:45 a.m. EST (AA Flight 11, WTC North Tower #1)
* 8:03 a.m. CST/9:03 a.m. EST (UA Flight 175, WTC South Tower #2)
* 8:43 a.m. CST/9:43 a.m. EST (AA Flight 77, Pentagon)
* 9:00 a.m. CST/10:00 a.m. EST (UA Flight 93, Pittsburgh, PA)
* Flags will be flown at half mast throughout campus.
* Campus Ministry will be holding a memorial service in the Hamilton Center, located in the James R. Connor University Center, at 8:30 p.m.
