Released: September 26, 2002
Accounting students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater are continuing to beat the odds on the Uniform Certified Public Accounting exam with another top ranking in first-time passage rates.
In the most recently released rankings, UW-Whitewater rated number one in the nation in first-time passage of the CPA in May 2001. UW-Whitewater passed 45.5 percent of students taking the exam, topping the second-ranked University of Northern Iowa, which passed 41.9 percent. The national average for first time passage is about 15 percent.
“This is a team achievement and the students play a huge part in our success,” said Robert Gruber, chair of the accounting program. “Our accounting students are goal-oriented and are motivated to work hard and do well.”
UW-Whitewater also ranks No. 1 in the nation over the last ten years in the percentage of students achieving first-time passage of this uniform exam. From 1991 to 2001, UW-Whitewater has appeared NASBA’s top ten listing of undergraduate programs 14 times. Others schools on the top ten list include the University of Illinois-Urbana and UW-Madison.
“The rankings over the last ten years show that we’ve been doing this for a number of years,” said Gruber. “It’s one thing to reach the top, but it’s another to stay there.”
