Released: November 6, 2002
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wheelchair basketball team opens its season by hosting a team tournament beginning Friday, Nov. 8. It is the first game action for the Warhawks since winning the NWBAC Division II title last March. UW-Whitewater is hosting the Central Intercollegiate Conference for man's wheelchair basketball, which continues through Nov. 9. All games will be played in the DLK/Kachel Fieldhouse.
Other teams participating in the tournament will be the University of Illinois, Southwest State University, University of Texas-Arlington, Oklahoma State University and Edinboro University (PA).
The Warhawks will compete this season in Division I, a move up after dominating the Division II level in recent years. The Warhawks' wheelchair basketball program has captured five national championships in the school's history.
