UW-Whitewater inks exchange with Nottingham Trent University
Released: December 5, 2002
UW-Whitewater business students and faculty will soon have the opportunity to study, work on internships and collaborate on research through a new academic exchange set up with the Nottingham Trent University, located in central England.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to learn at an international business school,” said Chris Clements, dean of the College of Business and Economics. “Both universities have strong business schools and this will allow us to take advantage of each others’ strengths.”
The two schools will form a “strategic alliance,” according to Steve Kazar, director of International Education at UW-Whitewater. “This exchange program will be different from the others that we have because it’s more comprehensive,” Kazar said. “It will involve faculty in collaborative research projects, student internships at both schools and feature a short-course learning programs in Nottingham,” he explained.
Nottingham Trent students will first be able to attend UW-Whitewater in the fall semester of 2003. UW-Whitewater students can enroll at Nottingham Trent in the spring semester of 2004. Faculty from both schools will begin collaborating on research next year.
Studying abroad gives students a unique cultural and educational experience, Kazar said. “The Nottingham area is rich in history,” Kazar noted. “The Midlands area of England is famous for its textile industry. There’s also the Nottingham Castle, which dates back to the 11th century.”
“Nottingham Trent University offers a great deal of expertise in the areas of international business and public sector management,” Clements said. “They are impressed with our on-line education programs. I think many of our students will want to get involved in this kind of international, global business experience.”
