“GrannyD” to speak as part Government Week at UW-Whitewater

Doris Haddock, better known nationally as “GrannyD,” will speak about ending political corruption during Wisconsin Student Government Week Feb. 17 -18, 2003, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The first of two scheduled appearances for GrannyD will take place Feb. 17 at the Hamilton Center at 7 p.m. to discuss ending political corruption. The second appearance Feb. 18 will discuss state government reform. This will be a panel symposium of Steve Nass, Debi Towns, David Ward, Neal Kedzie and Ted Kanavas.
Other programs during the week include the official kickoff of the event on
Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. with Chancellor Jack Miller and GrannyD, followed by the keynote speaker at 7 p.m., Wisconsin Secretary of State Doug LaFollette. Scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Feb. 19 luncheon is Wisconsin Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton.
GrannyD earned fame for walking across the United States in 2000 raising awareness for campaign finance reform. As she arrived in Washington, D.C., Wisconsin state Sen. Russ Feingold and Arizona state Sen. John McCain greeted GrannyD on the last mile to the Capitol. She continues to appear at events that call for ending political corruption and cleaning up elections. She recently wrote a book about her trek entitled “Walking Across America.”
Wisconsin Student Government week is an entirely student organized event that helps get young people of America involved in government interests.
