Women’s history month celebrated at UW-Whitewater

Women’s History Month, which originated in California in 1978, will be celebrated on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus with a Women’s Fair from
11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the Hamilton Center. The Women’s Issues Committee is inviting all departments, student organizations, and community members and groups to join in this celebration.

An expected 25 organizations will have displays highlighting women’s achievements, their contributions or struggles in times of war and peace. This fair will include hands-on activities, demonstrations, posters, brochures and promotional items that are relevant to women and the enhancement of their lives. There will be campus and community entertainment of various kinds such as dancers, dramatic performances and poetry reading.

This year the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, Women’s Studies Student Organization, Wisconsin Women’s Network, Social Work Student Organization and the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department will be among the organizations and academic disciplines featured.
