Three UW-Whitewater advisors to receive prestigious award

Three faculty and staff members from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater have been recognized by the National Academic Advising Association as part of the 2004 NACADA National Awards Program for academic advising.
Pamela Tanner, advisor in the Academic Advising & Exploring Center, has been selected as an Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit recipient in the Academic Advising-Primary Role category. This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding qualities associated with direct delivery of advising services to students and who have served as an advisor for three or fewer years.
Samantha Samreth, College of Business and Economics advisor, has been named Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit recipient in the Academic Advising-Primary Role category. Recipients of this award must have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students or outstanding academic advising administration. Samreth is one of 15 advisors honored in this category nationally this year.
William Weiss, assistant professor in the communication department, has been selected as an Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit recipient in the Faculty Academic Advising category. This award honors those individuals whose primary responsibility is teaching and who spend a portion of their time providing academic advising services to students.
Each year since 1983, NACADA, in cooperation with ACT, Inc., has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.
Tanner, Samreth and Weiss will be presented their awards in Cincinnati, Ohio during the annual NACADA National Conference in October.
