MTV Campus Invasion Tour comes to UW-Whitewater
Released: April 19, 2004
MTV is invading the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus for a day of music and empowerment on Thursday, April 29.
The invasion begins at noon and ends around 3 p.m. with a DJ conducting prize giveaways and handing out literature in “getting out the vote.” Members from the rock bands Hoobastank, Lost Prophets and Ima Robot will be available to meet and sign autographs. The bands will perform later at 8 p.m. in the Williams Center. The Student Entertainment Awareness League (SEAL) is sponsoring the event.
“MTV’s purpose is varied. One priority is to bring national artists live to their viewers,” said Kim Clarksen, program advisor at the Leadership Development Center. “Another priority is to help college-age people to be engaged civically by voting and believing that their votes count. The message from MTV is very clear ú there are enough people of college age to truly impact who our leaders are.”
Key events throughout the day include:
- An on-site DJ who will spin music and conduct prize giveaways.
- Prize giveaways of CDs, Punk'd merchandise, t-shirts and tickets to the concert that night.
- Sample bags containing voter registration information, “Rock the Vote” literature and band merchandise.
“The MTV Campus Invasion Tour is a major event in a long list of campus events SEAL provides to students and community members each year,” said Clarksen. “We are hoping that the events help spread the organization’s name and what it does to a large percentage of the campus.”
