Seminar offered on financing agricultural export sales
Released: May 27, 2004
The Emerging Markets Program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is offering a seminar on “Financing Your Agricultural Export Sales” on June 15, 2004 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The seminar will be held at UW-Whitewater Carlson Hall, Room 2016. Instructors will be Jack Nevell of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and Lora Klenke and Lisa Stout from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. The cost will be $25 per person.
This seminar is designed to help exporters of agricultural products or livestock, as well as non-agricultural products, identify private and public sector sources to access working capital to support their international trade efforts.
Discussions will also include how to reduce the risks of not getting paid. The SBA has programs designed to aid the exporter and lower the risk of working with new emerging countries, as well as those countries that have been importers of U.S. products for many years.
The seminar will address methods of payment, basic banking services, SBA programs such as Export Express and the Export Working Capital Program to help generate financing and credit insurance to reduce risk for the exporter.
The second part will focus on the “Branded Program” of the Mid-America International Trade Council (MIATCO). A company can double their overseas promotional budget by participating in this program. MIATCO’s program can reimburse eligible agricultural businesses which produce, process or represent food and agricultural products up to 50 percent of expenses including trade shows, overseas marketing, advertising, public relations, and international packaging costs. Information on how to apply for these programs and up-coming venues for products will be discussed.
