UW-Whitewater Chapter Wins SHRM Superior Merit Award for 21st Consecutive Year
Released: August 19, 2005
For the 21st consecutive year, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) has received a Student Chapter Superior Merit Award. The student group was honored for ?an outstanding job of providing opportunities for growth and development to members.?
The 2004-05 chapter was led by co-advisors Richard Wagner and Jon Werner, and chapter president Amanda Leyes. Chuck Salvetti, SHRM?s student programs manager, said, ?The Society for Human Resource Management student chapters continue to demonstrate their dedication and commitment to the human resources profession. Our student members, chapter leaders, and chapter advisors strengthen our organization and advance the field of human resources.?
Werner added, ?This was another strong year for SHRM. We saw both the executive board and the whole chapter really step it up in the second half of the year to maintain our streak of consecutive years winning the Superior Merit Award. This honors the memory of Dale Scharinger, the founder and longtime advisor of the Whitewater SHRM chapter, who passed away in 2004.?
The SHRM student chapter merit award program, in existence since 1972, recognizes achievements in four broad areas: professional operation of the chapter, professional development of the members, support of the profession, and partnership with SHRM. Of 430 active student chapters nationwide, 133 submitted applications for this national award. Ninety-eight chapters earned the Superior Merit Award, and 25 chapters achieved Merit Award status. To earn the Superior Merit designation, chapters must receive at least 1,901 out of 3,300 possible points. The Whitewater chapter received 2,335 points for their efforts this past year.
