Contemporary Issues Lecture: Linda Faye Williams
Released: October 12, 2005
In the first lecture of the College of Letters and Sciences Contemporary Issues Lecture Series for the 2005-06 academic year, Linda Faye Williams, professor at the University of Maryland-College Park, will present "The Constraint of Race: Legacies of White Skin Privilege in the United States." The lecture will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Center located in the James R. Connor University Center.
Williams’ lecture will challenge social norms and focus on the advantages of white Americans instead of the disadvantages of black Americans. “The Constraint of Race” offers a new approach to understanding the evolution of American social policy and the racial politics shaping it.
Racial, social and political equity are the unifying topics of the College of Letters and Sciences 2005-06 Contemporary Issues Lecture Series. The series, sponsored by the College of Letters and Sciences, brings nationally credited scholars to campus to share their studies and facilitate dialogue about hot topics in the United States. All of the lectures are free and open to the public.
