Alumni return to campus in theatre tragedy "Macbeth"

Released: October 17, 2005

Marcus Truschinski and Chris Klopatek

Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth will be performed at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Irvin L. Young Auditorium Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature two alumni, Marcus Truschinski '04 and Chris Klopatek '04.

Truschinski of Spring Green, Wis. will play both Menteith and the young Siward. “I get to fight as young Siward and that is fun. I get to die on stage as well,” Truschinski said. “The best part about Menteith is that he is a conspirator.”

Klopatek of Plain, Wis. will play the role of Witch #2 and Fleance. Fleance is usually played by a woman, but in this case Klopatek will bring out an unusual aspect to the character. The play will have some nontraditional aspects such as Klopatek’s character Witch #2 being male versus female and modern dress styles. The text and content of the play will remain traditional, but the costumes will be a mix of old fashioned and modern. Klopatek noted that while the play is not meant to be set in any particular time frame, the audience will know it takes place in Scotland.

“We also mingle rock guitars with bagpipes and old Scottish musical arrangements,” Truschinski said.

Both actors felt that their experiences and education at UW-Whitewater helped them become successful.

“My favorite part about UW-Whitewater were the friends I acquired and the experience I had learning by doing,” Truschinski said.

Klopatek also said life-long friendships built at UW-Whitewater played a key role in his education and success. “We help each other out whenever possible. I was also taught by some of the best acting coaches a guy could have wished for.”

Tickets for the American Players Theatre performance of Macbeth are $20 to $26 for general public admission and $18 to $ 24 for guests over 65 years old or under 18 years old. Tickets are available at www.uww.edu/youngauditorium or (262) 472-2222.
