Athletic Director Runs in Chicago Marathon

UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Paul Plinske, along with an estimated 40,000 others, ran the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Plinske placed 981st in the male division and 1,075th overall.  The marathon is 26.2 miles and has a five-hour time limit; Plinske finished in just over three hours.

Plinske began marathon running in 1997 and has competed in 11marathons so far, including the Boston Marathon in 2002. He begins training months in advance, running an average of 7-10 miles per day, 50-70 miles per week.

“I run because I enjoy it and for the personal challenge,” said Plinske. “Running isn’t for everyone,” he added. “Find something you enjoy and do it.”
