Local 1131 raises money for Hurricane Katrina victims

Released: October 6, 2005

The Local 1131, Wisconsin State Employees Union of UW-Whitewater raised $375 to help support five students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. In a fundraiser held September 19-26, 2005, WSEU set up six donation locations throughout campus for students and employees to make contributions.  The union then matched the amount raised.

The employees represented by the Local 1131, WSEU work behind the scenes to improve campus life. On behalf of Local 1131 members, Blue Collar Chief Stuart Roger Beck said, “We take pride in our jobs and want the victims of Hurricane Katrina to feel they are a part of our campus family and that we care.”

The five UW-Whitewater students who will benefit from Local 1131’s generosity include: Alicia Tate from Dillard University in New Orleans; Morgan Gwaltney from the University of New Orleans; Andrew Kinnear from Tulane University; Gabrielle Guerra from Loyola University in New Orleans; and Jessica Chandler from Loyola University in New Orleans.
