Amnesty International Film Festival

November 17, 2005

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater chapter of Amnesty International will be hosting a film festival to commemorate the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,” which begins Friday, Nov. 25 with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on Saturday, Dec. 10 with International Human Rights Day.

The festival will feature four films focusing on violence against women, including “Senorita Extraviada” on Nov. 29, “Afghanistan Unveiled” on Nov. 30, “The Peacekeepers and the Women” on Dec. 6 and “Highway Courtesans” on Dec. 7. The films will be shown at 8 p.m. in Upham Hall, room 145 and are free of charge. An informal discussion will follow each viewing.

Sponsors for the film festival include the department of women’s studies, Leadership Development, UW-Whitewater chapter of Amnesty International and the Women’s Center.

Amnesty International USA is participating in this worldwide campaign. This year’s theme is “For the Health of Women, For the Health of the World: No More Violence,” which focuses on highlighting the connections between violence against women and HIV/AIDS.
