Student Art Association art supply drive a success

Released: November 23, 2005

Responding to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and a request from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Student Art Association (SAA) raised $300 to purchase discounted art supplies from NASCO (North American Students Cooperation) for students and schools affected in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge area. To support Whitewater’s effort, NASCO of Fort Atkinson matched SAA’s order and has agreed to ship the supplies to Louisiana.

SAA President Chris Gerber said, “I am really proud of the organization’s response. I am very pleased with how the bake, jewelry and pottery sales went.”

“SAA did a phenomenal job of raising money,” said Kris Bakke of NASCO. “The students deserve all the credit for their efforts.”

Bakke met with Gerber on Tuesday, Nov. 15 to receive SAA’s donation and coordinate the delivery of the supplies.
