Energetic students offered opportunity to promote the University

Released: September 25, 2006

Several students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will be offered the opportunity to promote the university through the Warhawk Ambassadors program.

Chancellor Saunders and Dr. Barb Jones established the Warhawk Ambassadors program with the goal of providing a chance for 10-15 UW-Whitewater students to serve as ambassadors of the university and in the Whitewater community.

"The program is an excellent way for students to get a better in-depth understanding of the institution and connect with friends, alumni and the community," said Jan Bilgen, associate director of Leadership Development.

Ambassadors will serve as liaisons between the campus and the community, helping with outreach on behalf of the institution. In addition, ambassadors will serve as university hosts for guest speakers and special events, and assist visitors to the campus.

To be eligible for a Warhawk Ambassador position, a student must have completed at least two semesters at UW-Whitewater and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Selected students will receive training and an opportunity to apply for the $1,000 Chancellor's Ambassador Scholarship given annually. Responsibilities include attendance at the Ambassador training, weekly membership meetings, and a commitment of 10 hours per month for Ambassador activities. The position is for the 2006-2007 school year and selection for 2007-2008 will begin in March.

"The program is beneficial for on and off-campus students because they can establish an appreciation for the university and get a real sense of what it is like to be a Warhawk," Bilgen said.

Application hardcopies are available in Drumlin 120 or can be viewed online at www.uww.edu/leaderdev. Completed applications, resumes and a list of three references are due Sept. 28, 2006 to Bilgen in Drumlin 120 or via e-mail.
