Art Professor Dan McGuire receives WiSys Innovation Scholar Award
Released: October 27, 2006
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Associate Professor of Art Daniel McGuire is the 2006 recipient of the WiSys Innovation Scholar Award.
McGuire's invention, "Investment Casting Slurry Composition and Method of Use," scales back the time required to produce ceramic shells. Created in collaboration with Eric Hellstrom of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, this new casting method enables industry to save time and increase casting efficiency.
In August 2006, WiSys contacted UW-Whitewater Provost Richard Telfer to consider McGuire for the award. He concurred with the selection of McGuire, and final selection was made jointly by WiSys and campus administration.
"I'm proud of Professor McGuire, and I'm glad he's on the faculty here at UW-Whitewater," Telfer said. "This shows that there are possibilities for people to be successful, and it will help other professionals complete their work."
The WiSys Innovation Scholar Award program was developed to recognize and honor University of Wisconsin faculty, staff, and students who make and disclose to WiSys outstanding discoveries that benefit society.
The WiSys Innovation Scholar Award Reception honoring Dan McGuire will be held at noon, Monday, Oct. 30, in the Center of the Arts, room 2080. Lunch will be served.
