Kolb and Company gives $75,000 for new business building

October 17, 2006

The accounting firm Kolb and Company of Brookfield has given a gift of $75,000 in support of the new College of Business and Economics building and student scholarships at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

This recent gift will provide a $2,000 "Kolb and Company Endowed Scholarship in Accounting," as well as two, $750 accounting scholarships annually over the next 10 years.

"We are very grateful for Kolb's support," College of Business and Economics Dean Chris Clements said.  "Scholarships are extremely important for our students, and endowed scholarships such as these are especially critical because they can be awarded in perpetuity.  This gift is a source of pride to us because Kolb's willingness to invest in a UW-Whitewater accounting student represents an investment in Kolb?s future."

Mark Miller, tax shareholder and head of Kolb's tax division, added, "We are excited to make this pledge to the College of Business and Economics as an expression of appreciation for the many UW-Whitewater graduates and interns that are employed at Kolb and have greatly contributed to the success of our firm. We believe our financial commitment to the new business school will help UW-Whitewater maintain and expand the excellence it has achieved in the past by continuing to attract talented faculty and outstanding students."

Kolb provides numerous internships and scholarships for UW-Whitewater students.  Company employees serve the college and the university in myriad capacities.  Of its 100-member staff, approximately 16 are UW-Whitewater graduates.

The new $41 million College of Business and Economics building will be completed by fall 2009.  The building will include a state-of-the-art trading room, 38 hi-tech classrooms, a 400-seat auditorium, two 150-seat lecture halls, five computer labs, a center for entrepreneurial development, a global research center, a fiscal economic research center and an international studies room.
