Released: October 2, 2006

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater announced today that Virchow, Krause & Company and its partners have given a gift of $150,000 in support of the new College of Business and Economics building and student scholarships.

"Our firm has benefited greatly through our long-standing relationship with UW-Whitewater, so we wanted to express our appreciation through this gift," Jeff Feder, a 1985 graduate and Virchow Krause partner, said.  "To know our gift is going toward the educational pursuits of our future employees is rewarding."

"The college is very pleased to have received this generous gift from Virchow Krause for the new business building," Dean of the College of Business and Economics Chris Clements said.  "Virchow Krause has been a long-time, strong supporter of UW-Whitewater's accounting program.  We are proud to be able to name a 150-seat lecture hall after the firm and have their involvement in the future of the college be widely recognized by everyone who uses the building."

Virchow Krause provides numerous internships and scholarships for UW-Whitewater students, as well participates in student organization activities.  Company employees serve the college and the university in myriad capacities.  Howard Marklein, a 1976 graduate, sits on the College of Business and Economics Advisory Board. 1974 graduate Dan Anderson serves on the UW-Whitewater Foundation Board.  Lynn Gardinier, a 1990 graduate, sits on the Department of Accounting Advisory Board.

The 15th largest certified public accounting firm in the U.S., Virchow Krause employs nearly 100 UW-Whitewater alumni, 15 of which are partners in the company.  Virchow Krause has offices in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The new $41 million College of Business and Economics building will be completed by fall 2009.  The building will include a state-of-the-art trading room, 38 hi-tech classrooms, a 400-seat auditorium, two 150-seat lecture halls, five computer labs, a center for entrepreneurial development, a global research center, a fiscal economic research center and an international studies room.
