UW-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra to perform at WMEA
October 25, 2006
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra will perform for the first time at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA) convention at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the State Convention.
"This is a really big deal for the UW-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra to be recognized throughout the state," String Area Coordinator Carmen Wiest said. "This is an arrival point for us to actually represent UW-Whitewater in front of the whole state."
According to Wiest, the UW-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra has definitely grown over the past few years. When she arrived at UW-Whitewater in 1998, there were only two string majors on the symphony; today she has 40. With a full symphony to work with, Wiest finally has the chance to show Wisconsin that the UW-Whitewater Symphony Orchestra program is really one of the best in the state.
Among those to participate at the WMEA, three UW-Whitewater faculty members will be featured soloists: Benjamin Whitcomb, cello, Brian Leeper, baritone voice and George Lindquest, guitar.
