AMA students participate in Adopt-A-Lot program
Released: November 21, 2006
Community service is a job that's open to anyone, as 11 members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) know through their participation in the Adopt-A-Lot program on Monday, Nov. 13.
The Whitewater Student Government carries out the Adopt-A-Lot program. On a volunteer basis, student organizations are assigned to a parking lot or area on campus to keep clean. AMA keeps Lot 18 clean, which is the parking lot behind Esker Hall.
"Adopt-A-Lot keeps our university clean which is very important," Vice President of Outreach Kelly Mischler said. "It is very important to the university as well as the environment, especially because of UW-Whitewater's nature preserve."
AMA also provides a number of services to the community. They participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program and they held a food drive for Hurricane Katrina victims. "We need to keep the university clean as well as areas around it so that students can learn from it for years to come," Mischler said.
AMA provides service to its members through professional development, networking with professionals, acquiring working-world experience and interacting socially with other members. They are in the process of assisting the multicultural organizations on campus by marketing each organization and their events. Next semester, the UW-Whitewater chapter of AMA will start the Ambassador Program and plans to help other universities start an AMA chapter.
