Released: November 15, 2006
Frankfurt, Hamburg, the Bavarian Alps and Cologne. These are just a few of the places the College of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will visit on the "Passages to Germany" travel-study tour July 29 to Aug. 12, 2007.
Curriculum and Instruction Professor Ann Ruff and Lecturer Larry Kenney will lead the tour, which departs from Chicago on Sunday, July 29, 2007 and arrives in Frankfurt, Germany on Monday, Aug. 1.
Participants will have the option of attending the 15th European Conference on Reading in Berlin Aug. 5-8, 2007. The conference's theme, "Checkpoint Literacy," will review a broad range of topics in literacy including: writing and spelling development, reading competence and literacy and democracy. People from 50-70 countries will attend the reading conference. Students must register in advance to attend the conference.
This is the fifth time the College of Education has done a travel-study tour in conjunction with the reading conference.
"The travel experience is very important in terms of developing a global perspective of education and it meets one of the goals of UW-Whitewater in their strategic plan for the future," Ruff said. In the past UW-Whitewater has toured Ireland, Great Britain, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. In four tours, UW-Whitewater students have visited 10 countries.
