'Take Back the Night' with Students Against Sexual Violence

Released: November 3, 2006

To educate the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus and community about the devastating impact of sexual and relationship violence, Students Against Sexual Violence will host "Take Back the Night" at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Fern Young Terrace.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Take Back the Night rally will include a brief program followed by a speak-out session inviting individuals to come forward and talk about the effect of sexual and relationship violence in their lives.  At 8:30 p.m., there will be a candlelight march to Jitters where the Milwaukee-based music ensemble DevaNation will perform.

"Take Back the Night is important because it brings awareness to the campus community about sexual violence and allows people to commit to bringing an end to the violence," SASV President Ann Feutz says.  "It also is a safe place where healing can begin for survivors and their friends."

SASV is a student organization dedicated to educating the campus and the community about the prevention of sexual violence, as well as assisting victims in becoming striving survivors.
