Faculty, staff join together to give more than $11,000 to United Way

Released: November 8, 2006

When called to make a difference in the Whitewater community, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater faculty and staff joined together to give $11, 344 to the United Way.

"We raised a significant amount of money, with 84 people donating to the campaign," Paul Plinske, United Way Campaign Chair, said. "Our initial goal was $15,000 and although we fell short of that, we raised more than ever before."

Faculty and staff had two easy ways to make a donation: through payroll deduction or direct donation in the form of cash, check, credit card or gift of stock. Donors were also able to choose how they wanted their gift invested in the community, either through the United Way's Community Fund, designating a specific agency or requesting information on planned giving. Individuals pledging $100 or more were automatically entered in a drawing for prizes. Winners included:

"We would like to thank everyone who helped with the campaign and for stepping up to the plate to make a difference. I know the people in Jefferson and North Walworth counties will be very pleased with our efforts and the contributions of UW-Whitewater faculty and staff," Plinske said.

The United Way partners with numerous Jefferson and North Walworth county agencies, including: the American Red Cross, Bethel House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, Jefferson County Literacy Council, People Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse and Whitewater Family Connections.
