For some, the road to finding a job out of college can be a long and difficult one. But not for alumna Emmy Fink '06, who was recently named the new spokes model for Madison's CW-TV.
"I am extremely excited and optimistic for this job with Madison's CW," Fink said. "I feel very blessed to have this opportunity right out of college." While Fink's position as on-air personality/producer doesn?t begin until Jan. 2, 2007, she's recognized at the station and already featured on Madison's CW Web site, www.wb57.com.
Fink attended the Wisconsin Broadcasting Association Job Fair in June 2006 where she met CW Vice President and General Manager Tom Keeler. She kept in touch with the station and pursued the position when it became available. Fink prepared a demo tape, questionnaire, commercial shoots, photo shoots and promotional shoots. At the CW Premiere Party, the top five contestants were named. The next morning, the top five appeared on national TV to see who would make it to the top three. Fink was named Madison's Next Spokes Model soon after.
During her time at UW-Whitewater, Fink double-majored in broadcast journalism and physical education. She was a member of the National Broadcasting Society for two years and co-hosted "SportsHawk," a bi-weekly program on Cable 19, the university cable TV station.
Fink's preparation for this position goes back to her days of high school. Fink developed a mentor relationship with her English teacher and forensics coach, Melanie Loftus. Loftus coached Fink for three years for her forensics competitions. When Fink informed Loftus of her opportunity, the two immediately began discussing interviewing skills, wardrobe, hair and make-up. "We worked together to coordinate the interview portion of the audition, as well as the professional, yet cutting-edge look for The Daily Buzz on the CW," Loftus said.
Loftus is thrilled that Fink was chosen as the spokes model for Madison's CW. "Emmy will bring her articulate public speaking skills, outgoing personality, fashion-savvy and commitment to excellence to her new position as the spokesperson for Madison?s CW," Loftus said.
Fink also had preparation through an internship during her time at UW-Whitewater. She worked at CBS 58 in Milwaukee with the sports department, covering the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks and Green Bay Packers. "I learned more in three months than I ever imagined and the hands-on experience was priceless," Fink said.
