'History of UW-Whitewater' DVD now on sale at bookstore
Released: December 11, 2006
What was a final project for graduation has become a hot commodity at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. 2006 alumnus Jeff Angileri's DVD, "The History of UW-Whitewater" is now on sale at the university bookstore.
"This is a superbly made visual history of the university," Richard Haven, associate dean of the college of arts and communication, said. "Jeff has done a great deal of research, and he has been able to capture many moments of the university's history through still photographs that are featured in the DVD."
"I wanted to leave my mark and really do something important for the university," Angileri said. "A lot of people really don't understand how old the university is. It's been around since 1868." The project took an entire year as Angileri wanted to have photos of all four seasons.
Angileri's mentor for the senior project was Peter Conover, a communication professor and director of the Cable 19 TV Station. "Dr. Conover was a great help to me because of his expertise in this discipline and his understanding of how important the project was to me."
In the DVD, Angileri gives a thorough account of the university through photos and stories. "It's really a story about the people, the times, and the lives they lived. The DVD is filled with 100 photos of history." Angileri, a Norridge, Ill native obtained his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from UW-Whitewater.
The DVD will be sold at the UW-Whitewater bookstore for $10. A portion of the profits from DVD sales will go toward a scholarship for students majoring in broadcast journalism and electronic media copywriting. "I want to encourage them to do projects like this and showcase their talent," Angileri said.
While Angileri learned a great deal from this process, he said he has gained much more. "I learned about all the people at the university. The university and its people were able to foster students dreams because now I'm working at my dream job." Angileri is a reporter and anchor at WJFW NBC 12 in Rhinelander.- LeQuez Spearman,spearmanlt22@uww.edu
