To honor 26 years of dedicated work and commitment, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater alumni donated $56,500 to recognize the many achievements of Joseph S. Domitrz, former dean of the College of Business and Economics from 1976-2002.
The gift will be used to name the dean's office and conference room in the Timothy J. Hyland Hall after Domitrz.
"The strength of UW-Whitewater's College of Business and Economics today is the direct result of the outstanding leadership and selfless dedication Joe Domitrz provided for more than 26 years," Dean of the College of Business and Economics Christine Clements said. "We are pleased to receive this generous gift from a group of those who benefited from his committed leadership, and to have the opportunity to name the Dean's Office area after Joe."
Chancellor Emeritus James Connor wanted to do something to honor Domitrz, someone who made the college what it is today, Eric Leaf, director of advancement for the College of Business and Economics said. Connor worked with a group of alumni who were strong supporters of Joe and together decided to make a contribution. Donors included:
- Ron Riskin, 1971
- Chancellor Emeritus James and Zoe Connor
- Bill Reichhardt, 1971
- William Stogsdill, 1971
- Dave, 1949, and Lolita Kachel, 1950
- Debra (Mosher) Pyzyk, 1972, in memory of her husband Jon, 1971
- Heidi and Tom Berens, 1971
"Having known Joe for the better part of 20 years he was very effective as the dean, always going that extra mile," alumnus Ron Riskin said. "It's amazing when you look at the group of donors, how diverse we are today, with a desire to recognize Joe's many years of service. We appreciate his efforts."
The new $41 million Timothy J. Hyland Hall will be completed by fall 2009. The building will include a state-of-the-art trading room, 38 hi-tech classrooms, a 400-seat auditorium, two 150-seat lecture halls, five computer labs, a center for entrepreneurial development, a global research center, a fiscal economic research center and an international studies room.- Patti Schenker,schenkerpl07@uww.edu
