Sandi Scott Duex
Passionate, life-long learner, exceptional teacher, gifted communicator, collaborative and caring are some of the qualities used to describe Sandi Scott Duex, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater assistant director of university housing. Because of these qualities, Duex was awarded the Robert E. Mosier professional enrichment award.
Duex of Fort Atkinson was nominated for the award by colleagues from sister University of Wisconsin institutions. This award is one of the highest awards given by the Upper Midwest Region Association of College and University Housing Officers (UMR-ACUHO). Professionals from a region consisting of eight states and Manitoba were eligible for the award and Duex was the only housing professional to receive this award.
"Duex's role at UW-Whitewater's residence life carries many hats," said Jeff Janz, director of UW-Whitewater residence life. "She is a supervisor, mentor and is always here for the students. She never hesitates to volunteer her time whenever or wherever she is needed. Duex has demonstrated a real strong student advocacy, more than anyone I have ever known."
Jacque Bollinger, assistant director of residence life at UW-Oshkosh and one of the individuals who nominated Duex, added, "Duex is the complete package of a professional. When the residence life staffing and program people meet, we look to Sandi for guidance. She is our unofficial leader. While we are her colleagues and peers, it is quite apparent that we all have the highest regard for Sandi and what she brings to our group."
The Professional Enrichment Award was established in 1990 and renamed the Robert E. Mosier Professional Enrichment Award in 2004. This award recognizes someone who has made outstanding contributions to the professional development of colleagues, has an established record of involvement within professional organizations at the local, state and national level and has exhibited commitment to enhancing skills, knowledge and motivations of fellow professionals.
UMR-ACUHO is a collection of professionals organized for three specific purposes. These purposes are to educate, conduct research and provide service to member institutions within the region. In carrying out this mission, the interchange of energies, ideas and efforts produces an impact greater than the sum of its separate parts and insures a level of program quality consistent with the expectations and needs of the diverse people and institutions of UMR-ACUHO.
