Networking event for management majors Sept. 27

Released: September 19, 2007

What can possibly be better to a college student than free food? Free food and career opportunities. The management department at UW-Whitewater will hold a social and professional development event for all general management, human resource and operations management majors on Sept. 27. The event will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. in Esker 118. Students are encouraged to dress casual.

The event is designed to be a networking opportunity for students. Faculty members and experienced professionals from the general management, human resource and operations management fields will be on hand to talk with interested students. As a general management advisory board initiative supported by the faculty, management students played a significant role in the development and planning of the event.

"We wanted the students to be a big part in creating this event so it will benefit them as much as possible. Listening to what is important to them helps us give them the tools they need to excel in their academic and professional careers," said management professor Jerry Gosen.

Interested students who attend the event will have an hour to socialize with management faculty and advisory board committee members before attending their choice of breakout sessions. Session one will concentrate on careers and adding value to yourself as a potential employee. Session two will focus on internships and a business school critique. The event will wrap up with a question and answer period. Interested students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities for professional development that this event will provide.

"Our goal in creating this event is to give students as much knowledge and contact with real-world professionals as possible, and this is an absolutely can't-miss networking opportunity for all management students," said Gosen.
