AMA Service Week set for Oct. 22-26
October 22, 2007
As the old saying goes, where there's a will there's a way, and UW-Whitewater's chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) certainly has the will. The week of Oct. 22-26, members will be open for appointments from residents and businesses around the area to do the odd jobs that some people just can't get to on their own.
"Any odd job you need done we will do. No matter if it's raking, mowing, or any other house chore, it's no problem because it's for a good cause," said AMA board member Carolyn Schweitzer.
The purpose of this service week is to raise money for the Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma Foundation (JPAF), which supports children with juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma, the most common form of childhood brain tumor.
One of the main reasons AMA chose to raise funds for this specific group this year is a two year old girl named Hailey Meltz, who happens to be Schweitzer's cousin. Meltz suffers from an inoperable brain tumor, like many of the children in the JPAF. Research has been done to find new drugs to combat the illness, but additional funding is needed to speed the now stalled process.
If you would like AMA to help you out with some of your fall cleanup or if you want some more information, you can contact Schweitzer at (920) 851-3610 to set up an appointment. Visit the Web Site created for Hailey at http://www.teamhailey.org/ to learn more.
