Career Services offers free programs for seniors
Released: October 24, 2007
Free and fun are two words college kids love to hear. Career Services provides the fun and offers workshops on finding an internship, graduate school information and programs for seniors at no charge to UW-Whitewater students. Not only are they fun, they're helpful too.
Workshops are already underway as "How to Find an Internship" took place Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. in Career Services, L-2002 presented by Laura Morrow, internship coordinator for Career Services.
Morrow is also hosting a series of Internship Outpost informational tables this semester. Students are able to stop by with any questions regarding internships, the internship search, resources on campus and more. "Instead of students always having to come to us, I am going to them," Morrow said.
The outpost schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2-4 p.m. in Winther Hall
- Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2-4 p.m. in the Center of the Arts
- Monday, Nov. 12, 2-4 p.m. in Carlson Hall
The Senior Transition Series is a new workshop offered this year requested by students and staff.
"Though many students work while they're in school, the transition to a professional job can be somewhat intimidating and much different than what they're used to. We're helping seniors navigate some of the more difficult areas," said Kathy Craney, Career Services career counselor.
The Senior Transition Series is as follows:
- Thursday, Oct. 25, "Building/Managing Wealth"
- Thursday, Nov. 1, "Entering Your Employer's Organization"
- Thursday, Nov. 15, "How to Succeed In The Workplace"
- Thursday, Nov. 29, "Success Intelligence"
They will all take place at 5 p.m. in Career Services, L-2002.
"I look forward to sharing information with our students and helping facilitate their growth and career development. In general, our students are very knowledgeable in their subject areas and many of them have great extra-curricular experiences, so this should help them use both in the most positive way and help them successfully launch their first professional career," Craney said.
