CEO hosts Warhawk Elevator Pitch Competition
Released: October 16, 2007
Entrepreneurs seeking start-up capital must first pitch their idea to investors or venture capitalists. This pitch can happen in the strangest of places, like in an elevator. Unless the elevator breaks down going from one floor to the next, there's not much time to pitch the idea.
With this in mind, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization (CEO) will host the Warhawk Elevator Pitch Competition. The competition's goal is to help students learn the process of how to develop a well-organized presentation for a creative business idea in a short amount of time. It will take place Wednesday, Oct. 24 in Upham 145 at 5:15 p.m.
"The Warhawk Elevator Pitch Competition will give students great experience on how to present ideas to potential investors," said Casey Jewell, president of competition for CEO.
Each team will have 90 seconds to pitch their new business idea to five judges. Anyone with any major can compete. The formation of teams is encouraged, but only one team member may pitch the idea. Teams may include people who are not UW-Whitewater students, but the presenter must be a UW-Whitewater student. Note cards and PowerPoint will not be allowed while giving the pitch. The winners will be announced immediately after the last presentation.
The Elevator Pitch Competition is a great way to prepare for CEO's annual Warhawk Business Plan Competition planned for spring 2008. The 2007 competition had nearly 50 entrants competing for $5,000 in prize money. The 2008 prize pool is expected to be $10,000. The first meeting for the Warhawk Business Plan Competition will be Jan. 31, 2008.
"Some amazing ideas came from the first Warhawk Business Plan Competition held last year," said Vanessa Lund, president-elect of competition for CEO. "This year, I expect even more great ideas to emerge and C.E.O. is going to reward them with a lot of money."
