State Marching Band Championships invade Perkins Stadium

Released: October 18, 2007

Looking for something exciting to do this weekend? This Saturday, Oct. 20, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will play host to the Wisconsin School Music Association State Marching Band Championships.

For the 15th year, more than 36 bands from across Wisconsin will be competing at Perkins Stadium with the first band stepping off at 10:45 a.m. and the final awards ceremony at 10:15 p.m. The competition brings 12,000 or more to campus, including students, parents, teachers and spectators and is a great opportunity for high school band students to perform at a college venue.

"The stadium is one of, if not the finest marching facility in the Midwest. It is the site where both Drum Corps International and Marching Bands of America were founded," Glenn Hayes said. "They see our campus, our field house, our stadium and our marching band. It is the greatest single day exposure to our campus."

The ticket windows will open at 10 a.m.  Tickets are $11 for adults and $6 for children and senior citizens.
