Professor Matt Sintchak performs at Korean music festival

October 22, 2007

Music's ability to transcend cultural and language barriers is one of its beautiful qualities. One can communicate universal emotions and feelings such as love, happiness, sadness, etc. in a pure way without any hindrances. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater saxophone professor Matthew Sintchak and the instrumental group he plays in, the Ancia Saxophone Quartet, will be doing just that when they travel to Korea Oct. 20-23 to perform in an International Music Festival.

Ancia, founded in 1990, is comprised of four highly trained saxophone artists and is based out of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Min. They have performed at several international venues before, but will be the group's first performance in Asia.

"I was very excited at the idea of going over to Korea as a group. It will be fun and challenging to perform in a variety of styles and settings," said Sintchak.

Sintchak teaches applied saxophone lessons, directs the jazz ensemble and helps with the jazz combos here at UW-Whitewater.
