Political science research colloquia starts Oct. 2
Released: October 1, 2007
The political science department at UW-Whitewater is hosting its first research colloquium of the semester on Tuesday Oct. 2. So, what exactly is a colloquium? It's a conference for members of the political science department to share ongoing research projects and receive feedback from colleagues.
Each session is informal with the faculty member providing an overview of their work and then opening up the floor for discussion. The sessions first began in fall 2006 and political science members meet three times during the semester.
"The best part of these sessions is the give and take that goes on," said Susan Johnson, chairperson and professor for the department of political science. "It is good to present your work to your colleagues and have them ask challenging questions about your approach or findings."
The following research will be presented at the colloquia:
- Susan Johnson: "Teaching in an Online Environment: Student Perceptions and Expectations," Tuesday, Oct. 2, 3:45-4:45 p.m., White Hall, room 228.
- Xia Li Lollar: "The Impact of Government Corruption and Monopolized Industries on Poverty and Income Disparity in Urban China," Tuesday, Nov. 6, 3:45-4:45 p.m., White Hall, room 328.
- F. Peter Wagner: "Romania in the European Union," Tuesday, Dec. 4, 3:45-4:45 p.m., White Hall room 328.
All professors and students interested in discussing political science research topics are welcome to attend. For more information contact the political science department at (262) 472-1120.
