Wellness Fair a success

Released: October 4, 2007

At the 2007 Wellness Fair, the Williams Center was packed with students learning how to better their health and well being all while having fun.

The different tables at the fair were: Test your tobacco I.Q., Alcohol and health, benefits of walking, healthy eating, Curves, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Students Against Sexual Violence (SASV), Golden Living Centers, People Against Domestic Abuse (PADA), Chartwells, Lenses to Fit Your Lifestyle and more.

On Oct. 2 from 11-2 p.m., not only did students walk around, receive free stuff and lots of useful information; they were also able to interact. At the table for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, students were able to listen to hearing simulators that demonstrated what a person with hearing loss could hear. Beth Mazer, a volunteer for the association was happy with the turn out at the fair. "This is our first year at the Wellness Fair and everything is going very well. Many students are trying out the hearing simulator, which is great."

Many students around campus don't leave the house without their i Pod, mp3 player or headphones, so the association offered ways to prevent noise-induced hearing loss:

The other organizations also shared these facts with attendees.

UW-Whitewater senior, Joanna, Rush said about the fair, "It's definitely an eye-opening experience. The fair is a great way to re-evaluate how to live your life and how to make it better."

Sophomore Samantha Schaefgen said, "I think the fair was really great and showed what the university offers to students on or near campus. It was informative and fun at the same time."
