Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Head Football Coach Bob Berezowitz was recognized before the Wisconsin State Assembly Tuesday, Nov. 6. at the State Capitol in Madison.

Representative Kim Hixson (D-Whitewater) authored the resolution that was presented to Berezowitz.

"The members of the Wisconsin legislature do hereby congratulate and thank Bob Berezowitz on his 22 years of hard work and great achievement serving the state of Wisconsin as coach of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks football team," Hixson said during the Assembly session.

"What a wonderful honor for a most deserving individual," UW-Whitewater Athletic Director Paul Plinske said. "Exactly one year after the Governor proclaimed 'Bob Berezowitz Day', we get the chance to recognize him once and for all by the state."

"Congratulations to Bob Berezowitz on this honor," Interim Chancellor Richard Telfer added. "It was a real pleasure watching him coach so many Warhawk football teams over the years. Bob's leadership helped to create one of the top Division III football programs in the nation. He served this institution with joy, integrity and a true sense of purpose. I am extremely proud of all that he and the Warhawks have accomplished."

Berezowitz was coach of the Warhawks since 1985 and led the team to 158 wins, the third highest victory total in the history of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). His accomplishments include eight WIAC championships, five NCAA Division III playoff appearances and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division III championship game. In 2005, he was named the American Football Coaches Association Division III National Coach of the Year.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the State Assembly," Berezowitz said. "I humbly accept this award on behalf of the UW-Whitewater, our administration, coaches, players and support staff."
