Residence Hall Association recognized for philanthropy

Released: November 21, 2007

When it comes to fundraising for a good cause, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Residence Hall Association (RHA) is award winning.  UW-Whitewater's RHA received the Largest Philanthropic Contributor award for its fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society at the Great Lakes Association of College and University Residence Halls (GLACURH) conference in Saginaw, Michigan.

The organization raised more than $1,300 for the American Cancer Society through on-campus fundraising.  Fischer Hall and Bigelow Hall were two of the top contributors.

"Clearly, the amount of money raised on behalf of our residence hall students is indicative of the types of student leaders we have in our residence halls.  They care a great deal about others and showed that with their monetary donation," said Sandi Scott Deux, associate director of residence life.

The National Residence Hall Honorary and DLK Enterprises also contributed to the fundraising.

Coins for Cancer buckets were placed at all residence hall front desks from Oct. 24-Nov. 8, 2007, to help raise money.  "I am proud of the residents on this campus for the tremendous generosity they displayed through the Coins for Cancer buckets. They raised almost $400 just through coins and small bills," said Tim Scully, national communications coordinator for the RHA.
