Student Veterans honored at Nov. 7 reception

Released: November 5, 2007

It's hard enough being a college student. Students who are also military veterans have faced challenges that most cannot imagine. On Wednesday, Nov. 7, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will honor its student veterans at a Veterans' Day reception 1-2 p.m. in the Center of the Arts Atrium.

"Recognizing our student veterans at this time is important," said Interim Chancellor Richard Telfer. "These students comprise an important and a growing part of our campus. I hope the campus community will join me in honoring them for their service to our country and university."

The reception will give veterans, friends and families the chance to speak with each other. A representative from the UW-Whitewater Veterans Club will also speak at the reception.

"It's important for veterans to come together to have support from each other and get to know other people who are in the same situation," said Casey Derksen, president of the UW-Whitewater Veterans Club.
