Dahle Family Memorial Scholarship distributes $10,000 in new funds
Released: December 3, 2007
One of the great things about the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is the continuous support from its alumni. Most graduates value their education from the university and do what they can to keep the tradition going strong. The Dahle Family Memorial Scholarship is one such fund that recently received $100,000 in new funds from family of the original donors. The new money makes it possible to offer additional scholarships this year and $10,000 per year in scholarships for the next nine years.
"This is a wonderful addition to our college," said Megan Matthews, the director of advancement for the College of Arts and Communication. "The impact that this gift makes in the lives on the students receiving the scholarships is more than just the dollars they receive, it encourages them as they pursue their dreams to change the future."
The Dahle Family Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of Ann and Jon Dahle in honor of their commitment to the university. Ann Dahle joined UW-Whitewater in 1927 working in the registrar's office. Through her 29-year career, she affected the lives of countless students, especially as the director of student admissions. Ann's children, Jon and Mary, both graduated from Whitewater College High School.
Ann's son Jon graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1938. He was involved in football, basketball and track. He was also voted the Most Popular Man on campus in 1938. As an alumnus Jon was actively involved with the university.
The new funds were donated by Ann's daughter, Mary, and her husband Warren Armstrong. The $100,000 will have a significant impact on students and the college's scholarship program for the next 10 years. It will also continue to make a difference as the interest it earns helps to increase the scholarship's original principal amount.
"We are happy that our family connection to the university lives on through the Dahle Scholarships," said Jon Armstrong, Mary and Warren's son.
The college had a special scholarship competition to give out the additional scholarships this. This year's recipients are senior Ben Fiess from Watertown, sophomore Michael Roemer from Brodhead and sophomore Tyler King from Jefferson. Fiess is majoring in art, Roemer is majoring in music and King is majoring in theatre.
