UW-Whitewater implements snow removal advisory policy

Released: December 4, 2007

In order to keep University of Wisconsin-Whitewater parking lots clear of snow when significant accumulation occurs, the university has implemented a snow removal advisory policy.

In the event of a snow advisory, the university will notify several media sources and provide as much advance notice to students and personnel as possible.  Advisories will be posted on the UW-Whitewater Web Site and will be announced on the following radio stations: WCLO-AM 1230, WJVL-FM 99.9, WSLD-FM 104.5, WTMJ-AM 620 and WISN-AM 1130.

"The express purpose of the advisory plan is to have an organized method to quickly clean the lots for employees and students in the event a significant snowfall occurs," said Randy Marnocha, vice chancellor of administrative affairs.  "Secondly, the plan is to ensure that only UW-Whitewater students and faculty are parking in the overflow lots, as we have had a problem with local residents using up our limited parking space."

The advisory will affect both academic and commuter lots, and all vehicles within them must be removed from midnight to 7 a.m.  Any vehicle left in the lot during this time may be given a parking ticket.  Lots affected by the advisory are as follows with a description of their location: 1 (CA South), 2 (CA North), 3 (Prince and Starin), 4 (Prince Street east), 7 (Visitor's Center), 11 (Williams Center), 12 (Library), 13 (Winther/Heide), 14 (Upham), 23 (Prairie Street west), and 15 (Health Center).  Parking lots 22 and 24 will be open on a first-come, first-serve basis during a declared snow advisory if individuals need a space for their vehicle.

Note that declared UW-Whitewater snow advisories take precedence over all overnight and weekend parking agreements in the lots designated above.
