Warhawks return to Stagg Bowl for national championship

The Warhawk football team has done it again, winning the semi-final playoff game against Mary Hardin-Baylor 16-7, and preparing for its third consecutive NCAA Division III championship appearance. The Warhawk football team (13-1) will gear up to face a familiar opponent, Mount Union College (14-0) in the first ever back-to-back-to-back meeting in history at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia.
The UW-Whitewater Warhawk football team is lead by Coach Lance Leipold. "This is a great accomplishment for our team," Leipold said. "Our coaches, assistant coaches and players have worked hard and this is an acceptance of transition." The Warhawks face Mount Union on Saturday with a 3:06 p.m. (CST) kickoff on ESPN.
Chancellor Richard Telfer added, "Congratulations are in order for the team on their outstanding season and exceptional accomplishments. The team's play has improved with each passing week and we hope to complete the job this weekend."

"While it's such a rewarding time for our program, we are going to Salem to take care of some unfinished business," Athletic Director Paul Plinske said. "I am so proud of this team and hope everyone can support the team in their quest to make the third time a charm."
Tickets will be available at the UW-Whitewater Ticket Office this week for three days only. Students can purchase tickets in advance for $7 and adults for $12.50 Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. For tickets, call (262) 472-2222. Tickets are also available in Salem by calling (540) 375-3004.
Transportation with Thursday and Friday departures is also available. Fans departing on Thursday, Dec. 14 can travel on a Warhawk Fan Bus leaving from Lot 3 (north of Carlson Hall) at 8 a.m. and arriving in Roanoke, Va. for Thursday night. Friday night lodging will have an additional cost ($59 plus tax by calling the Quality Inn, (590) 989-4000 and asking for the Warkhawk block price.) Fans will leave after the game on Saturday and be back in Whitewater on Sunday. The cost of the trip will be $150 for UW-Whitewater students, $175 for non-students (plus Friday night accommodations and ticket to the game, $7 for UW-Whitewater students, $12.50 for non-students).
An alternative option is to depart Friday at 6 p.m. on the Warhawk Fan Bus. The bus, departing from Lot 3 (north of Carlson Hall) will arrive in Salem, Va. and return to Whitewater on Sunday after the game; there is no hotel stay over. The cost of the trip will be $100 for UW-Whitewater students, $125 for non-students (plus game ticket of $7 for UW-Whitewater students, $12.50 for non-students).

Warhawk fans planning to watch the game in Whitewater can watch it on a big screen in Drumlin Dining Hall. It will also be shown in the Williams Center, room183 after the conclusion of Commencement.
