Senior celebrates 10 years with 'Trav-A-Ling' Tunes
Released: December 14, 2007
One fateful day in 1998, 12- year-old Kenosha/Twin Lakes native Travis Wetzel was asked to bring some music to play at his aunt's surprise birthday party. This was a big responsibility for a young boy, but he brought the noise, the people liked it and they wanted more. So from that day on, Wetzel decided he would be the man to provide it. Shortly after his initial gig, he gathered up his resources and created "Trav-A-Ling Tunes," his very own disc jockey service.
"I really enjoyed giving people an opportunity to have fun while using music as my tool," said Wetzel. "That night I decided I really wanted to continue to dj."
These days Wetzel is a senior studying business and marketing education at UW-Whitewater, but he hasn't given up on his career as a dj. In fact, he has expanded it to become one of the most recognized deejay services in southern Wisconsin. Wetzel will be celebrating his 10th year as the owner/operator of "Trav-A-Ling Tunes" early in 2008, and plans to stick with it for years to come.
"At first because I was so young, I only wanted to deejay for elementary and middle schools. Now I provide sound and lighting services for high schools, colleges, weddings, private parties, corporate events, and concerts," he said. "I find it amazing that 10 years later, I am still entertaining with more bookings than ever before."
Wetzel still has his priorities straight though. He understands that finishing his education comes first and will help in the long run.
"It gets tricky handling my college classes in addition to running a business," he said. "But being a business and marketing education student at UW-Whitewater has helped me become a more intelligent entrepreneur."
